“So tell the people: This is what the Lord of Hosts says: Return to Me” — this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts — “and I will return to you, says the Lord of Hosts.” – Zechariah 1:3
Having been married for over 40 years I can attest to the fact that “keeping the covenant” involves some intentional, often humbling work. Cindy and I haven’t always agreed on things and sometimes those disagreements have caused each/both/one of us to temporarily “part ways.” Yet, by the grace of God at work in our hearts, we have always found a way to mend any slight tears in the fabric of our union and ultimately tighten the marital knot. Make no mistake about it though, the hardest part in the work of repairing our relationship has always been that first step … the action or expressed word acknowledging personal fault.
It is no different with the Lord. Prodded by His grace, we must understand that He is never at fault and the first step is always ours. We must turn back to Him. This moment, this opportunity is made possible by Him, but it is ours to take … now … right now … do it.
God has promised forgiveness to your repentance, but He has not promised tomorrow to your procrastination. – Augustine
