Bad Trades

Has a nation ever exchanged its gods? (But they were not gods! ) Yet My people have exchanged their Glory for useless idols. – Jeremiah 2:11
Have you ever made a bad trade?
People make them all the time and usually it is because they have no idea of the true value of that which they already possess. Like the little brother who trades the small, tarnished dime for the heavier shiny nickel of his big brother, we often believe we have gotten a good deal when in fact we have not.
The nation that worships worthless idols will have no problem readily exchanging their “gods” for another, because they consider all gods to be equal in value. One might be “shinier” and, therefore, more valuable, so why not make the trade? In the same way, the Christ-follower that exchanges his GLORY (the one, true God) for a cheap man-made substitute obviously consider’s the former’s value to be no greater than the latter.
Not a problem for you? Perhaps not, but let us each consider exactly what receives the greatest portion of our time, effort, and devotion … for this is what we truly value and trade our lives for … every day.
… it appears to me a hazardous thing to exchange my soul for my shadow. – Adelbert von Chamisso
