In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity, consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that man cannot discover anything that will come after him. – Ecclesiastes 7:14
Ever wish you could see the future? The only future that a person may ever truly know is his or her own ultimate end with (or without) Christ. Of course, if a person simply repents and believe on Him, then an eternal future (at least) is forever secure!
What about the unknowable future? What about the future that Solomon spoke of when he said, “… man cannot discover anything that will come after him”? By grace, there is some wisdom available here as well. If all goes well, be happy. Rejoice in the blessings of God. If, on the other hand, all goes, well … not so well … just reflect, remember the faithfulness of God, and strengthen your trust in Him.
Our Creator made the good days and the bad. He is sovereign, He is love, and He knows what’s coming. He does not predict the future. He IS the future.
Don’t let your heart envy sinners; instead, always fear the Lord. For then you will have a future, and your hope will never fade. – Proverbs 23:17-18
