When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? – Psalm 11:3
I like to walk for exercise and often, when I do, I listen to talk radio … or at least, I once did. After a while I found myself feeling angry, frustrated, and a little depressed as one commentator after another spoke of all that is wrong with our country (morally, economically, etc.) and so I started to listen to music (or watch television) instead. Though only righteous because of Christ, I felt myself identifying with King David’s frustration in Psalm 11:3. When the foundations are being destroyed, what can be done?
Thankfully, David did not stop writing and went on to conclude his song with a sure word of assurance. He said, “For the LORD is righteous; He loves righteous deeds. The upright will see His face (11:7).” What can the righteous do when the foundations are destroyed? 1) They can promote righteousness, and 2) they can do what they have always done … they can fix their eyes on Jesus, the Author and the Finisher of true faith. For in His face … His Person … any person anywhere can find strength, resolve, and peace no matter what may be crumbling around them.
These are the times that try men’s souls. – Thomas Paine
