The Eternal Bet

Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And anyone not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. – Revelation 20:14-15

Do you believe in a literal hell?

Many don’t and I can understand why. I mean, who among us truly relishes the thought of a place of eternal torment and punishment? It’s actually pretty horrible to consider and a sure defense against fear is to simply “ostrich” (stick one’s head in the sand) and hope the “bad” goes away. Of course, cancer is bad too, but it still exists whether we believe in it or not.

One can act as if something does not exist, but sometimes the facts speak otherwise. For example, we know there is a heaven because the bible speaks of it. We can know there is a hell for the same reason. The only option is to ignore the plain teaching of Scripture, which is … again … your option.

But I have a question, “Are you willing to bet your eternal life on it?”

The safest road to hell is the gradual one – the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts. – C. S. Lewis
