I have given them the glory You have given Me. May they be one as We are one. I am in them and You are in Me. May they be made completely one, so the world may know You have sent Me and have loved them as You have loved Me. – John 17:22-23
What is the greatest evidence of “Christ in us?” Jesus said that He gave us (yes, this pericope is about us … those who would later believe the apostles’ message) the glory that His Father had given Him in order that we should be made completely one as He and His Father are one. Then He said that He wanted this supernatural unity to occur because it would send a message to the world that Jesus had been sent by His Father and that He indeed loved them, too.
Hmmm … The greatest evidence of Christ in us, Christ in His Church, must then be the unity of the saints. For it is this unity, this cohesiveness, that presents a consistent testimony to the world of God’s love through His Son.
… and we wonder why the world remains unreached? Fractured and fragmented, we will only continue to fail.
By faithfulness we are collected and wound up into unity within ourselves, whereas we had been scattered abroad in multiplicity. – Saint Augustine
