The Israelites were subdued at that time. The Judahites succeeded because they depended on the LORD, the God of their ancestors. – 2 Chronicles 13:18
Teachers, coaches, and leaders all speak of the need for a “winning formula.” This “formula” may include a certain chemistry among the team members or the perfect leadership strategy, but only rarely does it include the most essential element of all.
In the story referenced above, Jeroboam (the king of the northern tribes of Israel) had a good strategy (attack on two fronts), but the king of the southern tribes (Abijah) had something more. The Judahites had the LORD, God Almighty. Guess who won the day.
Your strategy may be great. Your chemistry and team may even be the best around. You may have the best leaders in the world (or that money can buy), but if you are not depending on the Lord’s provision, guidance, and wisdom, then you will not succeed in the things that truly matter.
Without the Lord, you cannot win … and with Him, you cannot lose.
Revival comes from heaven when heroic souls enter the conflict determined to win or die – or if need be, to win and die! – Charles G. Finney
