The temple that I am building will be great, for our God is greater than any of the gods. – 2 Chronicles 2:5
When Solomon began the construction of the Temple in Jerusalem, he freely admitted that he wasn’t able to build anything that would properly honor the one, true God. Because the heavens themselves could not contain the Creator, Solomon rightly deduced that no building could contain the Him either. Yet, he still built.
For the Christ-follower, God’s temple is a fleshly body inhabited by the Holy Spirit. We all know how difficult it is to honor God in this earthly temple … and we know how easy it is to fail. Yet, we must still try. God is not limited by our failures and He is honored by our attempts to succeed. He is greater than any “one” of us for He is the ONE and His Body is comprised of the many who make up Christ’s Bride.
Though we are “still under construction,” we are His Temple and we too must strive daily to present a Savior who is greater than all the other so-called “gods” in the world today.
If you go forward in the spirit of the original apostles and followers of Jesus Christ, trusting not in man but in the living God, He will enable you to pull down the strong holds of sin and Satan, and that work by which He is pleased will prosper in your hands. – Adam Clarke
