The LORD responded, “I have pardoned [them] as you requested. Yet as surely as I live and as the whole earth is filled with the LORD’s glory, none of the men who have seen My glory and the signs I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tested Me these 10 times and did not obey Me, will ever see the land I swore to [give] their fathers. None of those who have despised Me will see it.” – Numbers 14:20-23
After the Israelites rebelled against God (in response to the negative report from the 10 spies), God said that He was going to wipe the nation off the map and start over with Moses’ descendants. Moses interceded for the nation and God decided to let Israel live, but there were consequences for their unbelief. None of those who had seen God’s glory, witnessed the signs He had performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, and had tested Him those 10 times (continuing in disobedience), would ever see the Promised Land. None of those … not one …. who had despised Him would see it.
Which raises a few questions. Has God revealed Himself in your life? Have you “seen His glory?” Witnessed any miracles? No, you say? How about a changed life? If the Lord has made a difference in your life, then why should you continue to fear the “enemy” and “giants” that confront you? If you belong to God in Christ, then your salvation is certainly assured. You WILL enter your “promised land” one day as certainly as you enjoy His abundant life here and now.
On the other hand, a life of doubt, rebellion, and fear will never see His promises fulfilled. Trust and obey … for there really is NO other way.
Do not fear mistakes. You will know failure. Continue to reach out. – Benjamin Franklin
