And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. – Colossians 2:6-7
More than once, I have spoken with my wife about our frequent moves. In the over 41 years we have been married, we have lived in 27 different places in 17 different towns/cities in three countries. No one could ever accuse us of “putting down deep roots!” At least, if not for the fact that we have always sought to be deeply-rooted in Christ.
In all our relocations, we have felt that God was leading us to another “place.” We have also known that if we remained in Him to the end, we would ultimately be “better” for the experience. Another thing we have learned is that you can never build higher than the depth of your foundation… or, to put it another way, “the deeper you go, the higher you can grow.” Have we finally settled down? In almost every way, we hope so, but whatever the Lord requires, we will do our best to respond faithfully.
Plunge your roots into Christ and you will be able to grow tall and strong in your service and witness for Him.
Truth, like gold, is to be obtained not by its growth, but by washing away from it all that is not gold. – Leo Tolstoy
