They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as He talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?” – Luke 24:32
When was the last time your heart “burned?” And, no, I’m not speaking of post-Thanksgiving reflux! After two of Jesus’ disciples had spoken with Him on the road to Emmaus (post-resurrection), they realized that their hearts had been “on fire.” It seems that the spark of truth in their hearts, that had almost been extinguished by the harsh reality of the Cross, became a raging inferno under the breath of Divine influence.
Perhaps, in a similar fashion, we (as Jesus’ current disciples) sometimes (okay, maybe more frequently than we might like to admit) too find ourselves moving down the path of this life, listless and unaware of Christ’s presence. Have the harsh realities of this world reduced God’s truth to a mere spark in our own hearts?
Let us walk with the Savior. Read and listen to His Word. Let the gentle breath of divinity blow on our own hearts. Embrace His Body. It is easy for the heart to grow cold when we neglect the fellowship of the saints.
The spark is there and if we do these things, we, too, can begin to blaze for Christ again!
Faith is the highest passion in a human being. Many in every generation may not come that far, but none comes further. – Soren Kierkegaard
