A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart. – Luke 6:45
What is in your heart? Jesus indicated that it really isn’t difficult to know what is in a person’s heart. All you need to do is observe his or her words … his or her speech … his or her conversation.
Now, aren’t you glad that you don’t walk around with some sort of recording device hanging around your neck? Then again, such a device might help us THINK before we SPEAK. We might also have some idea how our words sound to others. Even without a recording, perhaps it is a good idea to pause and reflect at the end of each day, asking, “Were my words unkind, judgmental, accusing … unloving?”
Search your heart. Everyone has a bad day every now and then, but is there a pattern? A person’s conversation is an open window to their soul.
Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing. – Abraham Lincoln
