In all labor there is profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. – Proverbs 14:23
Most of us have heard the saying, “Talk is cheap.” This, of course, means that it is easy to TALK about doing something (or having done it), but a lot harder to actually DO it. There is a similar question that I have used in the context of ministry and it goes like this, “When all is said and done, what will have been said and what will have been done?”
It was Henry Blackaby (Experiencing God) who I believe correctly summarized that God speaks through His Word (the Bible), prayer, circumstances, and His church. Have you heard Him? Has God told you to do something, which you have not done? If not, why not? My wife and I have faced moments in our lives when we had to decide what to do with the truth that God was communicating concerning His will and purpose. In those “opportunities for obedience,” God made it very clear that it was time to “put up” or “shut up.”
What is He telling you? What must you do in response to His command?
The ship that will not obey the helm will have to obey the rocks. – English Proverb
