Then He said to me, “Son of man, do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are committing in the dark, each man in the room of his carved images? For they say, ‘The Lord does not see us; the Lord has forsaken the land.’” – Ezekiel 8:12
When Ezekiel served as God’s prophet, he received a vision in which the leaders of Israel were performing secret acts of idolatry. These leaders thought that the Lord had left them and therefore, wasn’t able to see them or their wicked acts. In their distance from an abiding relationship with God, they forgot the attributes of God.
The Lord of heaven and earth is, among many things, omniscient and omnipresent. He knows and sees everything. We should never imagine that anything we do is done in secret. Even in those moments when we may begin to sense God has departed, that He has “abandoned the land,” I assure you that this is an impossibility.
Wherever we are, God is also there and He is watching.
Where secrecy or mystery begins, vice or roguery is not far off. – Samuel Johnson
