For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “Do not let your prophets who are in your midst and your diviners deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams which they dream. For they prophesy falsely to you in My name; I have not sent them,” declares the Lord. – Jeremiah 29:8-9
There are many in the world today who would claim to speak for God. When Jeremiah served as God’s prophet, there were many who made the same claim, but God said they were “false” because He never sent them. How can you know if someone is God’s true spokesman? How can you know if a person is truly sent by God?
Today the test is very simple. In order to be God’s prophet a person must speak the whole Word of God, not a part but the whole. If a person’s message does not agree with God’s Word (in its entirety), then this person is false. In order to know the truth and speak the truth, one must know the source of truth and one must also know His Word. The same is true for those who wish to know the difference.
Many are deceived, because they do not know God’s Word.
A bare assertion is not necessarily the naked truth. – George Dennison Prentice
