He says, “It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also make You a light of the nations so that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”- Isaiah 49:6
If you are a Christ-follower, then the Messiah died for you and all your sins (past, present, and future) have been forgiven. GOOD NEWS, right? Well, I wonder, is it GOOD NEWS for anyone else?
God made a covenant with Abraham and his descendants and the nation that emerged clearly benefited from their binding relationship with the Almighty. Israel was blessed by God’s promise, but are we not more blessed as children of God through the new covenant in Christ Jesus? Of course, we are.
Beyond His covenant with Israel, God desired that all the nations (panta ta ethne) of the earth come to the knowledge of His deliverance from Adam’s curse. He blessed Israel that they might be a blessing to the world, and it is the same with us! Jesus saved us from our sin (and its punishment) that we might be a blessing to the nations. We have been given a sacred trust, a message to steward.
Let us be a light (or provider of the light) for others in order that God’s salvation might reach the ends of the earth. Anything less is not enough.
