Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself. – 1 Samuel 18:1
We know that David (who would be king) had at least one good friend in Jonathan, the son of Saul. The verse above says that the soul of Jonathan “was knit to the soul of David,” which might be the very definition of “close.”
Do you have any really close friends? Who is the closest of all? If you stopped to think about it, it would probably be the one who has been the most committed to you and your dreams. It is that person who would come running, if you should ever call out in the “night.” Of course, if you have Jesus and He has you, then you certainly have at least one committed, close friend who is also your Savior.
Most people are blessed to have two or three good friends in their life, and some have only one. Today, let’s thank God for the good friends we have, but also commit to being such a friend to others.
A friend is someone who has the same enemies as you have. – Abraham Lincoln
