Now then, give me this hill country about which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day that Anakim were there, with great fortified cities; perhaps the Lord will be with me, and I will drive them out as the Lord has spoken. – Joshua 14:12
Caleb was 85 years old when he asked Joshua to give him the hill country as his inheritance. It would not be an easy region to conquer, because there were Anakim (giants) and their cities were well-fortified. Yet, in spite of his age and the barriers to success, Caleb was fearless.
Why did Caleb possess a courage that others (besides Joshua) did not?
The aging leader understood two things:
His God was greater than any mountain, wall, or giant!
Number 1 only mattered if He was on God’s side in the battle.
You see, without God, the war is already lost, but with Him losing is impossible.
Do you believe God is greater than the “mountains, walls, and giants” that we currently face? If we want to know victory, then we must know the Victor. Before He can be on our side, we must first move over to His. Victory is found in His truth.
Long-lasting victory can never be separated from a long-lasting stand on the foundation of the cross. – Watchman Nee
