Made Holy

For I am the Lord who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God; thus, you shall be holy, for I am holy. – Leviticus 11:45

Apparently, cleanliness is important to God.

Much of the Book of Leviticus speaks about how the Israelites were to keep themselves pure. There are rules about food, skin ailments, and even how to handle mold and mildew. Every rule served as a reminder that God is holy and that as His chosen people, Israel had to be holy, too.

God is, in His very essence, set apart and transcendent in His absolute purity. For mankind to dwell with Him, that purity must be equaled. What grace to know that forensically this has been accomplished by His Son! We who belong to Christ (by grace through faith) are holy because we have been made so by the blood of Jesus.

The rules of Leviticus have been superseded by the Ruler of Calvary!

Faith, as Paul saw it, was a living, flaming thing leading to surrender and obedience to the commandments of Christ. – A. W. Tozer
