Then their offspring will be known among the nations, and their descendants in the midst of the peoples. All who see them will recognize them because they are the offspring whom the Lord has blessed. – Isaiah 61:9
As a pastor, I often had the opportunity to lead the churches that I served through periods of transition. Fact is that a growing church is always in transition, or so it seems. As one might expect, these “seasons” of change were not traversed without some difficulty and as a leader I needed to be sure of my direction or I might not stay the course. Of course, those who desire to lead through change, and stick around for it, should also be certain that those who share in that responsibility are heading in the same direction!
The ultimate goal for any Christian organization should be authentic transparency before God. This is certainly true for the local church. As the body of Christ, we are to manifest our Head before the world. For some, the concept and experience is so foreign that when challenged to make this change, it can feel like a harmful shift away from everything the church holds dear. Leaders who are convinced of their compass readings may need to make some adjustments in order to ensure a coordinated effort.
God’s purposes are more important than our comfort. The wonderful truth is that everyone who truly loves Jesus desires the same thing, that we all be recognized as “offspring” that the Lord has blessed. With such recognition, we can then bless the world and give God the greater glory.
To call yourself a child of God is one thing. To be called a child of God by those who watch your life is another thing altogether. – Max Lucado
